Sunday Sermon

November 10, 2019
           "Questionable Leadership"
           Matthew 23:13  "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in."
         Old Testament:     Nehemiah 9:33-35
         New Testament:   Hebrews: 13:17
TODAY'S SERMON:  "Unrighteous Motives" Matthew 23:1-12
1.  What not to do. (Vss. 1-4)
2.  Why not to do it.  (Vss. 5-7)
3.  What to do. (Vss. 8-12)
BENEDICTION:  Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love.   - Ephesians 6:23-24
1.  A Pharisee's question of Jesus.  (Vss. 34-36)
2.  Jesus answers his question.  (Vss. 37-40)
3.  Jesus' question of the Pharisee.  (Vss. 41-46)
I would propose that the subject of the ministry of this church, as long as this house shall be frequented by worshipers, shall be the person of Jesus Christ.  I do not hesitate to take the name of the Baptist: but if I am asked what my creed is, I reply, "It is Jesus Christ."  The legacy to which I would pin and bind myself forever, God helping me, is Jesus Christ, who is the arm and substance of the gospel, who is in Himself all theology, the incarnation of every precious truth.

 Thoughts to remember:
        My life shall touch a dozen lives before this day is done;
        Leave countless marks for good or ill, ere sets the evening sun.
        This is the wish I always wish, the prayer I always pray:
        Lord, may my life help other lives it touches by the way.
